Modern Slavery Statement
Cleaners House Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement is made by Cleaners House in accordance with applicable legislation relating to modern slavery and human trafficking. It describes the steps we take to identify, prevent, and address the risks of modern slavery in our operations and supply chains.
Our Commitment and Zero-Tolerance Policy
Cleaners House operates with a clear zero-tolerance policy towards all forms of modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and child labour. We are committed to conducting our business ethically, transparently, and in full compliance with employment and human rights laws.
We expect the same high standards from everyone who works for or with us, including employees, agency workers, contractors, and all suppliers in our cleaning and related service supply chains. Any form of exploitation, coercion, or abuse of vulnerable workers is strictly prohibited.
Our Business and Supply Chains
Cleaners House provides professional cleaning services to residential and commercial customers. Our operations rely on employed and contracted cleaning staff, as well as suppliers that provide cleaning products, equipment, uniforms, and ancillary services.
We recognise that certain parts of the cleaning and facilities management industry may be at higher risk of labour exploitation, particularly where there are complex subcontracting arrangements or reliance on low-paid and migrant labour. We work to minimise these risks through careful selection, engagement, and monitoring of suppliers and partners.
Supplier Standards and Audits
We require our suppliers and business partners to uphold standards consistent with our zero-tolerance stance on modern slavery. As part of our procurement and onboarding processes, we assess suppliers for their labour practices, working conditions, and compliance with relevant laws.
Supplier contracts and purchase terms may include obligations relating to the prevention of modern slavery, including the requirement to maintain appropriate records, allow reasonable inspections, and cooperate with any investigations into suspected wrongdoing.
We conduct periodic supplier audits and reviews that may include questionnaires, requests for documentary evidence, and where appropriate, site visits. These activities are designed to verify that suppliers are not engaging in forced labour, human trafficking, or other exploitative practices. Where concerns are identified, we work with the supplier to implement corrective actions within clear timeframes or, if necessary, terminate the relationship.
Employee Awareness and Responsibilities
All staff, including managers and those involved in procurement and recruitment, share responsibility for helping to identify and address potential modern slavery risks. We provide information and guidance to raise awareness of the signs of exploitation and the steps to take if concerns arise.
Employees are required to act with integrity and to comply with our policies on ethical conduct, fair treatment, and respect for human rights. Failure to uphold these standards may result in disciplinary action, including dismissal where appropriate.
Reporting Channels and Whistleblowing
Cleaners House encourages anyone with concerns about possible modern slavery or unethical behaviour in our operations or supply chains to report them promptly. Concerns may be raised with a line manager, a senior member of management, or through our internal reporting channels.
Reports can be made confidentially, and we will take all concerns seriously. We will investigate reports in a timely and fair manner and, where necessary, take action that may include engaging with suppliers, notifying relevant authorities, or ending business relationships.
We are committed to ensuring that no person who raises a concern in good faith suffers any form of retaliation or disadvantage as a result of speaking up.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We recognise that tackling modern slavery is an ongoing responsibility. Cleaners House is committed to continuous improvement in our policies, procedures, and due diligence processes to better identify and mitigate the risks of exploitation.
This Modern Slavery Statement is reviewed at least annually by senior management to ensure it remains effective, up to date, and aligned with legal requirements and best practice. As part of this review, we consider changes in our business activities, lessons learned from audits and investigations, feedback from stakeholders, and developments in legislation and guidance.
Following each review, we update our internal procedures and staff communications as needed, and we re-communicate our expectations to suppliers and partners. By doing so, Cleaners House aims to contribute actively to the wider effort to eradicate modern slavery and human trafficking in the cleaning industry and beyond.
